Level crossings are the local specific. There are several active rail crossings in and around the city and they close for long periods, so a student learns queue discipline and stopping distance behind heavy vehicles as a matter of routine rather than as a set piece.

Lougheed Highway through the city is fast multi-lane arterial with mall and industrial entrances, while the streets north toward Riverwood and Citadel are curved suburban roads with limited sightlines. The two together make a reasonable road-test rehearsal.
